Harvestworks – Founded as a not-for-profit organization by artists in 1977, Harvestworks has helped a generation of artists create new works using technology. Our mission is to support the creation and presentation of art works achieved through the use of new and evolving technologies. Our goals are to create an environment where artists can make work inspired and achieved by electronic media; to create a responsive public context for the appreciation of new work by presenting and disseminating the finished works; to advance the art community’s and the public’s “agenda” for the use of technology in art; and to bring together innovative practitioners from all branches of the arts collaborating in the use of electronic media. We assist with commissions and residencies, production services, education and information programs, and the presentation and distribution of their work.

Galapagos Art Space — In DUMBO, Galapagos Art Space will be able to present the theater, dance, performance art, music, cinema, lectures / literary events, and the non profit fundraising that they believe is their core mission and the most important contribution they can make to their community and they will create New York City’s first LEED certified ‘green’ cultural venue.

082508 MoveOpolis!: Hostile Takeover

As a part Sitelines 2008, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s annual site-specific dance performance series, Richard Move and MoveOpolis! present Hostile Takeover — six elaborate live performance installations that occur at different downtown locations.

A glamorous collision of sexual desire and violence, masculinity and femininity and real and imagined worlds, Hostile Takeover places feminine beauty upon a pedestal (literally) in the midst of the male-dominated world of high finance, with stunningly costumed, Butoh-inspired female dancers. Costumes are made by Teatro del Odio and Gia Grosso, music is by DJ Savage.

A final performance event, Dances at a Gathering, featuring the entire MoveOpolis! cast and a video installation by Forward Motion Theater, will be presented on August 25 and is hosted by the Seaport Marketplace.

Hesperornis Regalis (Seabird): August 18, 6 pm, North Atrium Balcony, 3rd Floor of Seaport Pier 17 Mall
