Coco66
66 Greenpoint Ave Brooklyn, NY

This month we bring you a host of live performances, more than you can shake a stick at, and all for only $5. Yes $5.

The Future Is Beautiful’s goal is to bring a fine selection of live electronic music and visual performances to Brooklyn and NYC, spanning genres and styles. We curate our events based on the simple idea that music feels good, and if presented in the proper environment the feelings of the artists are broadcast and picked up by the listeners.

Early evening (from 8 - 11) we present down-tempo listening music. We curate the early evening to be a genre-spanning multi-media experience. All of the acts are selected not only for their musical content, but for the visual experience they provide as well. We set up chairs in the space so you can sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds without having to be distracted by standing. Things really do sound different when you can sit. You can even order food. It is a truly amazing experience - seating is limited, so arrive early.

As the evening progresses, the lights go down, and the music picks up. The chairs disappear and the night transforms. Around midnight everything is complete and the night is alive.

The whole experience is gradual, and wonderfully spiritual. If you haven’t been to a TFIB event yet than you really are missing something special. A pristine and clear sound system, visual stimulation, a respectful and attentive crowd, and a venue that is intimate.

Welcome to The Future Is Beautiful.

This month we bring you a fine selection of performances spanning the genres of drone and folktronic to hip hop and techno.

Praveen / Music Related & Moodgadget
Harmonium and toy piano folktronica, with Pandatone on visuals
Praveen Sharma has been making music for most of his life, and has contributed releases to AI, Neo Ouija, and Expanding Records. He also runs Percussion Lab, a hub for underground electronic music and exclusive DJ sets, in addition to being an avid live performer and event organizer in New York City. His most recent set of releases are based on a profound journey through his family’s native India. During his journey Praveen gathered a minidisk full of field recordings and voices. Upon his return to the US, Praveen accompanied by Kranky’s Benoit Pioulard crafted ‘Song Spun Simla’ based on these sounds. SSS, Praveen’s second album is available now, on NYC’s Music Related Records. In addition, this month marks the release of Songs Spun Simla remixes, on NYC’s Moodgadget.

Mon.key.pod / Cook Street Elite
MPC laden hip-hop funk
http://www.myspace.com/monkeypodduo
MON.KEY.POD is Christian Eric Reinhardsen, Justin Miller, and Ryan Casey. Utilizing a mix of analogue synth, wet bass, dirty drums and static laden samples, Mon.Key.Pod composes a cinematic blend of dark electronic rock and hard hip hop. The result is a mixture of science fiction monkeys, b-movie horror, psychedelic dance party’s, 8-bit crunk, and dirty south heavy metal. Add to this some gritty VHS video projection and Mon.Key.Pod’s live show is truly something to be heard, seen, and felt.

Mux Mool / Ghostly International & Moodgadget
Grimey hip-hop & New Disco
http://www.myspace.com/muxmool
Brooklyn’s Mux Mool is set to blow it up in 2009. Mux rose to popularity after inclusion on iTunes’ best of 2006 list, with the classic “Lost and Found.” His hard work and productions solidified him as an iTunes triple-threat in 2008. With the help of a remix by Machinedrum he claimed: Best Track “Death 9000 (Machinedrum Remix),” Best New Artist” for the “Drum EP,” and a slot on the Best Instrumental Album, Moodgadget’s “The Synchronicity Suite”.

Atomly / Atomiq & Wolf + Lamb
First Live PA of 2009
http://www.myspace.com/atomly
http://www.atomly.com
Known throughout NYC, Berlin and Chicago, Atomly is a fixture in the dance music. He DJs regularly at underground techno weeklies and after hours parties, where he folds deep-grooved machine music into heavy doses of housey soul with ease. Releasing his productions on his own Atomiq Records as well as Brooklyn’s Wolf + Lamb imprint, Atomly is no stranger to making the music others play. Pushing boundaries and making weird sounds is his style, and we are honored to have Atomly perform his first LIVE PA of 2009 at The Future Is Beautiful this month.

Isomer Transition / Archipel & Moodgadget
Live PA & DJ Set, Mixed
http://www.myspace.com/isomertransition
http://www.transelectronic.net
With current releases on Pheek’s well-respected Archipel Musique and the Ghostly International subsidiary Moodgadget, and with an upcoming inclusion on Claude VonStroke’s Fabric mix CD, Isomer Transition is quietly and consistently making a name for himself. This month Isomer will be performing a special set, both DJing and performing a Live PA, mixed together. A genre-spanning mix of vintage, released and unreleased tracks combined with on-the-spot programming and new material. Definitely something to be heard.

Patrick Gallagher / SP9
DJ Set
http://www.theoreticalbacon.com
http://www.unwillingcollaborations.com
Patrick has been involved with the Underground New York Dance scene since 98?. First and foremost as a fan, then visual artist, and finally an event promoter and DJ. Though all his endeavors its always been about the music. Believing that there are always only 2 kinds of music, that of good and bad. He is inspired by the sounds and sights of the NYC and the increasing ability to layer new and different elements together.

As a Brooklyn based digital artist, Patrick inhabits a place where the technology enhances reality and creative output. His DJ Style is layered with everything from Funk and Techno to Hard House and Tribal with accents and subtexts of Electro and Hip Hop.

021409 The Future Is Beautiful @ Coco66 Brooklyn NY

Coco66: 66 Greenpoint Ave Brooklyn, NY
Free before Midnight, $5 after

For our inaugural 2009 event, this Valentine’s Day we have created a very special and romantic evening. To begin the evening we have decided to forgo music (just this once) and show a cinematic master piece by Fellini, called ‘Cabiria’ . During the show we will be serving dinner from a limited menu that will be available at the venue. The food is wonderful and from the venue’s restaurant, Coco66.

Following TFIB Cinema we have selected a wide range of music and visual atmospheres to ‘keep you in the mood’. Starting off we have Alexander Basset (recently transplanted from Chicago) beginning the evening out with some slow house and new disco. Following up Alex is NYC’s long time resident and TFIB resident Patrick Gallagher, representing NYC with some deep and minimal house and techno. After Patrick we have fellow TFIB resident, Isomer Transition, performing his first Live PA in NYC in over a year. With an inclusion on an upcoming Fabric mix CD, and DJ support from the likes of Claude VonStroke, Troy Pierce and Ryan Elliott, 2009 is off to a good start for Isomer. Following Isomer’s inaugural 2009 Live PA we have two of New York’s underground DJ scene’s rising stars to finish off the night, Kendra ‘You know you know me so I don’t need a last name, fool!’ (of Wax Doll’s fame), and the in-demand Jon Schmidt. Kendra has promised to bring the dance party with a DJ set of infamous french house, and Jon will anchor the night with some deep and heady minimal.

Every TFIB event needs to look proper, so we have hypnotized NYC visual artist CHiKA and got her to be our resident VJ! Her visual style is both minimal and futuristic, a perfect compliment for the music we offer.

Finally, to make sure that the night *sounds proper* we are bringing in some amazing sound reinforcement from our friend Nick down in Philly. He has been doing sound here in NYC lately at the Bunker, House and Home, with Jason Carter and has an amazing sound system. Part of the Future being Beautiful includes enough bass, so we are being sure to bring it.

Schedule and set times:
8 - 10 : Fellini’s ‘Cabiria’ w/Dinner available
10 - 11:15 : Alexander Basset - Chicago / New Disco
11:15 - 12:30 : Patrick Gallagher - Deep House and Minimal Techno.
12:30 - 1:30 : Isomer Transition - Live PA Heady and Deep Techno.
1:30 - 2:45 : Kendra - French House Party.
2:45 - Close : Jon Schmidt - Deep and Heady Minimal.

Next month we bring you live electronic performances by Ezekiel Honig, Morgan Packard, Calmer, Isomer Transition and DJ sets by Jen Lusker, Patrick Gallagher + others.

If you are looking for an alternative to the main stream music events in NYC, look no further than The Future Is Beautiful.

TFIB is a fully multiplexed event brought to you by The Gestalt Foundation.
